We use a naturalistic approach grounded in research-based principles of behaviour science. Teaching is embedded in real-life settings using intrinsically motivating items and materials. Reinforcement is naturally integrated into tasks, and we seize "teachable moments" when a child shows interest or excitement in a person, item, or activity. This approach fosters meaningful learning in contexts directly related to the skill.
We recognise the vital role families play in the lives of young children affected by autism. Parents and caregivers are the child’s most consistent and important supporters, which is why we strongly encourage and support their involvement in therapy. Our sessions are designed to be practical and adaptable, ensuring strategies can be effectively implemented and sustained in the child’s natural settings—at home and school.
We provide compassionate services by prioritising continuous input from clients and their families. Goals, strategies, and outcome measures are developed in collaboration with those directly affected by the intervention. We understand the challenges families face and remain flexible in meeting their evolving needs. Our commitment is to support children and families in all settings and situations where our services are neede
We view Positive Behaviour Support as a collaborative effort involving our clinical team, the family, the child’s healthcare providers, and educators. By working closely with parents, we create environments that foster meaningful learning opportunities across various settings. Through consultation and collaboration with other professionals, we design effective programmes tailored to meet the unique needs of each child and family.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a values-driven framework designed to support individuals who experience behaviours of concern. It combines the science of behaviour with a commitment to enhancing quality of life and protecting human rights.
At its core, PBS aims to understand why behaviours of concern occur by identifying the underlying causes and environmental factors. Rather than focusing solely on reducing challenging behaviours, PBS seeks to teach new skills and create supportive environments that promote independence, inclusion, and well-being.
A key principle of PBS is collaboration—working closely with the individual, their family, and other professionals to develop personalised strategies. These strategies are proactive, focusing on preventing behaviours of concern by meeting the individual’s needs, building on their strengths, and improving their overall quality of life.
PBS is evidence-based and grounded in ethical practices. It emphasises dignity, respect, and the right of every individual to lead a fulfilling life. By understanding behaviour within the broader context of a person’s experiences and environment, PBS aims to create long-lasting, positive change across home, school, and community settings
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is beneficial for any individual, family, or staff team seeking evidence-based and compassionate support for behaviours of concern. It is suitable for people of all ages, including both children and adults, and can be delivered across various settings such as homes, nurseries, schools, care homes, and community services.
PBS can complement traditional schooling or function as a temporary therapeutic programme for children whose school placements have broken down. At Jigsaw – Behaviour Solutions, our team specialises in working with individuals aged 2 to 25 years, providing tailored support to meet their unique needs across different environments
PBS is delivered through a structured, personalised process led by one of our qualified Behaviour Analysts. It begins with an initial questionnaire to gather information about the individual's strengths, challenges, and behaviours of concern. If needed, a Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) is conducted to identify the function behind the behaviour. Using this information, we develop a Positive Behaviour Support Plan (PBSP) tailored to the individual’s needs. This plan outlines proactive strategies to prevent behaviours of concern, teaches alternative skills, and provides guidance on how to respond effectively when behaviours occur. Our Behaviour Analysts then work closely with families or staff teams, offering training to help them understand behaviour and implement the support plan consistently across home, school, and community settings.
